Q. What do I need before starting
lessons?
A. You need to be 17 years old, hold a provisional driving
license and be able to read a number plate from 65.5 feet away.
Q. How do I get a provisional driving License?
A. Pop into the post office and pick up the relevent form.
Q. How do I choose a driving instructor?
A. Ask friends or family for recommendations, look through the yellow
pages, local paper or internet. Ring them, have a chat, arrange your first lesson. If you are happy with the instructor
book more lessons and enjoy.
Q. When can I go for my practical test?
A. You will have to take, and pass a theory test. It has 2 parts to it. 50 Questions and Hazard perception.
Listen to your instructors advice. They will know when you are a safe competent driver.
Most instructors keep a progress chart, which is discussed each lesson which also keeps
you informed of when you are ready to take your test.
Q. What car will I drive on my test?
A. The car you take for test is the tuition car, you are used to the car and
know how it works.
Q. How many lessons do I need?
A. That depends on the individual. We all learn at different rates. Although
the average is 40 hours with an instructor alongside 28 with friends or family.

Department, PO Box 381, Manchester, M50 3UW. enclosing a cheque made payable to Driving Standards Agency.
To do this you will need your provisional driving licence number, your theory pass
certificate number and the date it was passed and a form of payment, either credit or debit card.
